We love this rattle, even though dd has not played with it too often yet, but we love the natural sound of the wood clacking, the feel of the smoothly polished wooden edges and smell, it will make a lasting toy in my books and dd so far enjoys playing with it for as long as she manages to hold it in her hands.
If you want the natural feel for your children toy's this is the toy to have.

I didn't really expect my son to like this as much as he does. It makes a nice clicking noise when you shake it so that the bead slides back and forth, and I've used it to get his attention for photos. He started liking it around 4 months and is 6 m.o. now. Of course he also loves to stare at his own hands, but he does like to sit and look at this. One thing that I have wondered about is the choking implications of the bead. If the little bar slid a bit then the bead would come off. I doubt that they've used some sort of glue since that could be toxic, and if it is just held in by pressure then it seems like it would be possible for it to come out. I haven't tried because I don't want to break the toy, but it is a concern in the back of my mind so I don't let him play with it on his own. You could buy the ring without the bead, but IMO the bead and noise is what he likes to much about this.

This toy will be a gift for our grandchild who isn't born yet. I wanted to have something that is made in the USA and it is solid wood. I am sure that it will be passed down for years to come.

This rattle is great! My daughter loves it. The sound it makes is nice too... a good wooden pop sound as opposed to the loud annoying sound in most rattles. Also, one can see where the sound is coming from! In an enclosed rattle there is not the opportunity to observe cause and effect like with this one. She slides the wood bead slowly and then quickly to see when the sound happens.

Our daughter was about 6 months old when we got this and she didn't show much interest at first. Now at 8 months old she loves to sling it around and make the ball slide back and forth making the clacking sound. This rattle is a keepsake because I can't imagine it ever wearing out. You can wash it with mild soap and water and use the beeswax sold by Camden Rose to condition the wood. Would buy again and give as baby shower gifts because it's really unique. Especially like that its not made of plastic or made in China!
